Video: Trimpin on Nancarrow Percussion Orchestra

To celebrate the one-hundredth anniversary of the birth of avant-garde composer Conlon Nancarrow (1912-97), renowned artist, inventor, and composer Trimpin has created a one-of-a-kind sculptural sound installation on view in the BAM/PFA galleries through December 23, 2012. Trimpin’s installation, which incorporates three splayed pianos, found items, improvised machinery, and even Nancarrow’s own percussive instruments, is the realization of a “dream orchestra” that Nancarrow worked on for several years but eventually abandoned. In the video below, Trimpin gives us a primer on the project.
