All proposals are reviewed by the curatorial department and museum director. If determined appropriate for the museum collections, proposals are then presented to the Acquisitions Committee, who must vote to recommend each work of art to the Board of Trustees for final approval. The Acquisitions Committee reviews proposed gifts quarterly. Donations valued at $5,000 or more require independent appraisal to qualify for tax benefits.
Donating Film and Video to the Pacific Film Archive
For information about donating film and video, please e-mail shibata@berkeley.edu. Please provide an inventory and description of the condition of the proposed donation. Once a film or video has been determined appropriate for the collection, acceptance is tentative until PFA inspects the print or videotape and the proposed gift is approved by the Acquisitions Committee. All donations require a deed of gift; gifts of physical property only do not affect copyright.
Donating Film Research Materials to the PFA Library
The Pacific Film Archive Library and Film Study Center welcomes donations of film books, periodicals, still photographs, posters, production files, distributor and festival catalogs, and any other film-related documentation. Donations help improve the scope and quality of the PFA Library collections, which are used by students, scholars, historians, and film enthusiasts from the Bay Area and beyond. People wishing to make donations should e-mail nlg@berkeley.edu for more information. All donations are subject to resale if items duplicate the library’s collections.
All donations to BAM/PFA are tax deductible.
