Sharon Lockhart Selects: Modern Life

(La vie moderne)

  • Introduction

Sublime and timeless.

The Telegraph

Photographer and filmmaker Raymond Depardon (Profiles Farmers: Daily Life) returns to the remote French countryside to talk with farmers, people of few words and a passion for the land. He travels down narrow rural roads to isolated farms—roads less and less traveled as the older generation die off and both young and old farmers sell their livestock, finding the work to be a decreasingly viable way to make a living. “A richly compassionate tribute to its hardy subject and their slowly vanishing way of life” (Total Film, UK).
