An indelible, must-see ode to gay New York.

Manohla Dargis, New York Times

New York City’s vibrant ballroom art form/subculture may have entered mainstream consciousness in the 1990s with Madonna’s “Vogue” video and Paris Is Burning, but the scene is as alive as ever today, and even more necessary. Led by LGBTQ youth of color, the activist Kiki scene still boasts the balls, dances, and fashions, but also provides peer-led support and family structures within its “houses,” many of whose members are at risk of harassment, assault, and HIV. “Not about us without us” is their motto for documenters; Kiki icon Twiggy Pucci Garçon was the co-creator of this “joyous, genuinely inspiring documentary” (Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair).
