Isaac Julien Presents Recent Installation Works

Julien will discuss his recent multiscreen installations, which respond to the global financial crisis. Julien has described Playtime as “both a critical and a comedic, satirical look at capital.” It features archetypical characters including The Hedge Fund Manager and The Houseworker (who are highlighted in tonight’s excerpts), yet is drawn from real-life events and interviews conducted by Julien. The result is an elegant, fascinating blurring of fiction and documentary. In Kapital, Julien engages in conversation with David Harvey, author of The Enigma of Capital. Julien will also present a clip from his 2010 Ten Thousand Waves, exploring China’s past and present.
