Gallery Talk with Artist Stephanie Syjuco

In conjunction with Mind Over Matter, artist Stephanie Syjuco discusses how artists consider documentation as part of their practice, with a focus on women artists.

Syjuco creates large-scale spectacles of collected cultural objects, cumulative archives, and temporary vending installations, often inviting viewers to participate directly as producers or distributors. With critical wit and collaborative co-creation, her projects leverage open-source systems, shareware logic, and flows of capital to investigate issues of economies and empire.

Born in the Philippines, Syjuco is the recipient of a 2014 Guggenheim Fellowship Award. Her work has been included in exhibitions at MoMA/P.S. 1, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the 2015 Asian Art Biennial (Taiwan), among others. She is an assistant professor in sculpture at UC Berkeley.
