Family Fare: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Ages 6 to 12 with accompanying adult(s)

  • With artist

Jill McLennan documents her constantly changing urban environment in paintings and mixed-media artworks that explore history, industry, and urban nature, imbued with a hopeful, futuristic vision. She is the director of JMAC: Jill McLennan Arts & Community and a member of the artist-run Mercury 20 Gallery in Oakland.

Explore the history of the recycle symbol and learn about universal symbols. Delve into ideas of reduce, reuse, recycle, replenish, restore, rethink, and rot, and become an ambassador for the planet while creating your own educational posters!

Sign up onsite beginning fifteen minutes before the session you wish to attend. Space is limited to twelve kids per session; please arrive promptly to sign up.

About Family Fare

On the second Saturday of each month, Family Fare connects art viewing with art making in ways that engage both young people and their grown-ups. In each session, families participate in guided viewing and discussion in the galleries with a UC Berkeley graduate-student guide. Then, they explore related ideas in the Art Lab with an experienced teaching artist. Each session focuses on a different group of artworks and related hands-on activities.
