But Does It Move?

Family Fare

  • With artist Claudia Tennyson

Claudia Tennyson holds an MFA from the California College of the Arts. She is inspired by the potential found in the simplest of materials and by interactive projects. She currently teaches at the de Young Museum and the Cedars of Marin Barn Studio.

Family Fare connects art viewing with art making in ways that engage both young people and their grown-ups. Participate in guided viewing and discussion in the galleries with a UC Berkeley graduate-student guide and then explore related ideas in the Art Lab with an experienced teaching artist. Each session focuses on a different group of artworks and related hands-on activities.

In a walkthrough of Berkeley Eye: Perspectives on the Collection with guide Kristen Kido, search the galleries for art that moves, suggests movement, or simply makes your eyes dance. Then, using simple materials such as paper, tape, and string, work with artist Claudia Tennyson to make a hanging mobile that spins by itself.

Sign up onsite beginning fifteen minutes before the session you wish to attend. Be advised that space is limited to twelve kids per session; please arrive promptly to sign up.
